Daughters of Lithuania are searching for Presindent
The Daughters of Lithuania is a long-standing organization with deep roots in the Lithuanian American community. The Seattle chapter has for many years been the network that showed up when it mattered most — walking families through their darkest moments, bringing meals when there was no strength left to cook, organizing fundraisers for those in need here and in Lithuania, and holding the community together in grief and hardship. This work is never one person’s alone: it lives in the hands of every member, and in the broader community that answers the call, contributes, and shows up. The president is the one who keeps the spirit alive, knows who needs help, knows who can give it, and brings the Daughters together so that none of it falls through the cracks. Tonya Floria has served as president for twelve years — holding that network warm, active, and alive. Now she is passing this work on, with a full year of mentoring committed and the Daughters ready to keep doing what they do. This is one of those rare roles where you leave knowing you made a real difference — not symbolic, not virtual, but real, for a real person, on the day they needed someone the most. The chapter isn’t looking for perfection — just heart and willingness. A Lithuanian speaker would be especially welcome. If this calling speaks to you — or if you know someone it should reach — please nominate by May 16th. Few roles offer this: coming home knowing, not just feeling, that you made a real difference today — a family that had a hand to hold, a person who wasn’t alone. This work isn’t about a position. It’s about leaving the world a little better every time you showed up.

The role includes: ◆ Listening and responding to community needs ◆ Assisting with funerals (dessert table, ushering, family support) ◆ Support for the seriously ill or dying ◆ Organizing meal trains for those in need ◆ Running the annual meeting and fundraiser ◆ Organizing cultural events — crafts, cooking, heritage ◆ Coordinating the board and ensuring the organization functions as intended Tonya is committed to a full year of mentoring her successor — sharing everything she knows for a smooth and confident handover.
